This is me
queer and religious?
Gay, lesbian, transidentitarian or intersexual AND religious, is this possible? Our photo exhibition portrays queer individuals from jewish, muslim, christian and other religions or denominations. Its aim is to increase our awareness of a diversity of lifestyles, from the point of view of sexuality and gender identity as well as religiousness.
On a daily basis, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, inter- and transgender individuals frequently experience the feeling of having to hide their true identity in order to be acccepted. In queer communities they encounter antisemitism or anti-muslim racism. In religious communities, and also through mainstream society, they are confronted with the expectation to conform to traditional relationships and gender constructs.
In this exhibition, which portrays diverse concepts of life in terms of sexuality and gender identity, as well as religiousness, we focus on a group of people who are rarely represented. Visitors will be given the chance to make their acquaintance along with their stories, thereby questioning their own stereotypes and prejudices.
The exhibition takes place during the jubilee year „1700 Years of Jewish Life in Germany“.
