Sigalit Landau

Azkelon

10.10.2025 - 01.02.2026

Sigalit Landau (*1969) is an internationally recognized Israeli artist known for her exploration of complex political and cultural themes and conflicts.

The video installation Azkelon (2011) shows young men engaged in the “Knife Game.” The idea of the game is the conquest of territories through the skillful throwing of a knife - accompanied by the drawing of new borders. Azkelon is a hybrid neologism formed from Aza (Gaza) and Ashkelon (Israel). These two neighboring cities share a beach, yet are separated by a border. The Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. The Israeli city of Ashkelon was built by Jewish immigrants, most of whom came from North African and Arab countries. With Sigalit Landau’s striking video work, we open a space for dialogue and reflection on the period following the Hamas terrorist attack and the subsequent war in Gaza.
